Hope launch the V6 Ti Mono Edition
You might have thought Hope had already made their most powerful mountain bike brake in the recent and hugely impressive GR4 but you would be mistaken, as today they re-launch an old classic, reborn into modern and monstrous form in the shape of their new V6 Ti Mono.
The GR4 is already a very potent brake and one that we’ve used on everything from regular mountain bikes to long travel E-Bikes with huge success, but the V6 Mono Ti takes power and heat management to another level altogether. A massive single piece CNC machined caliper gives a huge stiffness to weight ratio and maximizes surface area for rapid cooling. Inside the caliper, six cross drilled Titanium pistons apply the power to a very large brake pad, while a Nitride coating both minimises friction and increases durability. At the lever end, the current excellent EVO lever drives the system, using either the ‘standard’ or ‘power’ lever blades.

Also new for the V6 is a set of dedicated radial brake mounts, designed to get around the dimensional restrictions of conventional post mounts and create the space needed for the larger caliper. Compatible with 180mm (or more) post mount systems, the new brake can be used with 200mm, 203mm or 220mm rotors, as long as the rotor is 20mm larger than the default mounting size of your fork or bikes post mount.

Along with the new brake, there are also some very trick brand new floating rotors. The new T-Slot is a fully floating, 3 piece design and a whopping 3.3mm thick. The rotor uses internal fins to increase airflow between the two friction parts, with the circulation claimed to significantly reduce heat buildup. The vented steel outer is joined to an aluminium (E-Bike magnet compatible) centre body and on Hope’s dyno tests outperformed their regular floating rotors by a full 15% which is quite a gain against an already impressive system. The outer section of the rotor is also replaceable, cutting down on waste and cost when the braking surfaces do finally wear out. You can also choose to use the brake with the regular Hope 2.3mm Universal Discs should you wish.

For the moment, the brake is only available via a limited edition ’Mono’ set of just 1000 units worldwide to mark the 20 year anniversary of the original Mono brake. Detailed with their classic Black and Gold colour scheme and a laser etched serial number, the set of brakes, rotors and mounts could make for either a collectors item to prize and keep or a hugely potent brake to take out into the mud and simply hammer.
