Our experience of the Santa Cruz 5010 and a look at the new V4 2021 edition
This bike has been a staff favourite at Dirt School over the years and has seen many a coaching session on the hillside at Glentress from Andy, as well as a coast to coast race ridden by our Guide Tom. Collectively, they agreed that this bike is fun and versatile, allowing them to both blast down their favourite local trail or explore off the beaten track.
This year Santa Cruz Bicycles have tweaked aspects of the bike to bring it in line with a lot of their other models such as the Hightower and Megatower. They have introduced the new lower link VPP suspension design which helps deliver the 130mm of travel and coupled up with a 140mm fork. One of the characteristics of this design is that the lower link VPP always feels bottomless and begs to be ridden hard. The 5010 can now be fitted with any rear shock, so if you want to transform this bike again you can fit a Coil shock to make it feel more capable.
The fun element of this bike still exists with it’s slightly slacker head tube angle and increased top tube length. Tie this in with a lower bottom bracket, height and size specific chainstay length, it’s snappy feeling will allow you to effectively ride diverse terrain. Santa Cruz have also steepened the seat post angle so that long climb up the Golfie will be easier than ever.
If you are the type of rider that likes to hop and boost any small jump down a trail, then this is the bike for you. The bike encourages creativity and allows the opportunity to attempt lines that you previously lacked confidence in carrying out - always wanted to tackle that high line at Falla Brae, Glentress? Then the 5010 is the perfect bike to accomplish these challenges!
This bike is due to be in our store within the next few days. We will have the 5010 C S in large and a CC frameset in Loosely Blue and Black.
We can build the frameset into the bike of your dreams so give us a call to discuss build options.
