Product Launch: Hope Evo Brake Range

Hope Evo Master Cylinder in Black and Red

In the four years since Hope launched their Tech 4 brakes, they have become our all time favourite stoppers with many of the staff speccing a mix of E4 and V4 brakes around their personal bikes. Powerful, durable, easy to modulate and with exceptional backup, they set a high bar for any brake system to beat. Despite that, Hope seems to have somehow found room for more improvement as today they have launched an even more refined range in the new EVO brakes.

With both caliper and lever updates, the new EVO ranges mirrors the current Hope brakes, with the EVO X2, a 2 piston XC brake and two sizes of 4 piston caliper for trail and gravity use in the TR 4 and GR 4.

Hope EVO Master Cylinder in Black and Red

Starting with the master cylinder, the cam has been revised to reduce the amount of free stroke at the lever before pads engage with the rotor. A second bushing has been added internally to improve the (already very good) smoothness of the lever and for the first time, a bleed port on the top of the reservoir now allows the brake system to be bled without removing the top cap. For those who’ve spent years doing open bleeds on Hope brakes, that simple change is going to be very welcome!

The actual levers themselves have also been tweaked, with adjusted dimple patterns and shapes, but more significantly there are now three levers to choose from. Titled Control, Standard and Power, they are designed to work with different bite point preferences with shape and length adjusted to maintain an even brake feel no matter where the rider sets the lever. The Control levers suit those who like to run their lever close to the bar, the Standard suits a ‘normal’ middle range and the Power lever covers those who prefer their lever further out.

At the other end, the caliper designs have been subtly tweaked to increase stiffness and clearance, with slightly larger pistons increase the ratio of the 4 piston brakes by 6.5%. The new TR4 trail brake, now also shares the larger pad size with the GR4 for better contact at the rotor and durability.

Hope TR4 and GR4 Calipers

All of the brakes will be available in Hope’s usual wide range of colours and in a pleasant surprise at prices no higher than the current versions.
