Product Launch: PNW Loam 2 Dropper

Product Launch: PNW Loam 2 Dropper

Brand new to us here at Tweed Valley Bikes but a well established brand, Pacific North West components have been producing top quality mountain bike parts out of Canada for a decade now.

Originally founded in 2015 by Aaron Kerson, a former product developer at Specialized and global development manager at Amazon, Aaron and his partner Emily were both passionate riders who saw a chance to do something unique in the mountain bike market. Looking to build high quality components at affordable prices they wanted to carve out a niche as a real riders brand. Initially launching with their original Loam post, they have since expanded the company to also produce cockpit parts and pedals all backed by their lifetime warranty. Over the years their products have become known for delivering top tier quality at decent prices and they’ve developed a loyal following. The latest item to go back under the microscope was their top tier dropper and the result of the changes put in place is the brand new Gen 2 Loam dropper launching today. Built round a sealed dual chamber design, the Loam 2 should continue to provide the bomproff performance of the original post while making a whole host of improvements to useability.

Covering sizes all the way from 100m drop up to 225mm and with every post able to be adjusted in travel by up to 25mm there should be a one which is perfect for almost every rider. The size adjustment is tool free, requiring no more than the upper collar to be unscrewed and a notched bushing turned making changes easily achieved at home. Both the saddle clamp and mid cap areas have been worked on to keep stack heights and insertion to a minimum, allowing users to have the longest post  possible for their bike. The Loam was already an efficient post but the new version shaves almost another inch again off the height in the larger sizes.

The Loam also already had a good reputation for durability and the new post looks to push service intervals even further with extra brass and teflon pins added to the interface between post and stanchion to keep saddle play at bay for longer without compromising friction to do so. There is also a bit more option to customise the post than average with a swappable colour band at the mid collar and a choice of black or a very eye catching anodised silver for the post itself depending whether you want to blend in or stand out.

We're stock incoming right now, so if you're looking for a modern replacement to an aging dropper without spending the earth then have a look at a Loam 2 and see if it might be for you
