Raising the Bar - the New Nukeproof Megawatt Carbon

Nukeproof Megawatt Carbon RS

Launched today, the Megawatt Carbon is the latest race ready E-Bike from Nukeproof combining a refined carbon frame with the brand new and cutting edge SRAM Eagle Powertrain, all built around the incredibly well tested Megawatt chassis.

From early drawings on a sketch pad and based around the familiar points of the much loved Mega, the bike evolved through no less than five versions to the final production design. Fine tuned to maximise ground clearance without compromising standover or suspension performance and still leaving room for up to a 500ml bottle on all sizes the frame is a fine balance of shapes. Well protected from the elements the 720W battery is easy to remove, sliding out from the bottom of the downtube for swaps, maintenance or transport.

Two years in development, with Powertrain equipped test bikes raced through the 2022 E-EWS season and even racking up a race win here at our home EWS Tweed Valley, the prototypes have seen thousands of miles of testing in every condition all with goal of producing a bulletproof final platform that can perform in any location.

The SRAM Eagle Powertrain brings a new benchmark for integration to the system as a whole with the AXS app allowing riders to customise controller functions, tune power modes and support settings, personalise the brand new auto shift function and receive and install updates.

The motor system itself is incredibly intuitive to ride, with the user tuneable Range and Rally modes delivering a massive 90 nm of torque and 680W of peak power smoothly to the rider. Tremendously well modulated, both give a natural feeling ride with no sudden spikes or lapses in power while maximising battery usage to deliver what look likely to be some pretty impressive ranges based on our early test rides.

The ride performance of the bike itself is no less impressive, with kinematics subtly tuned from the previous bike to improve it even further on trail. Slightly increased progression along with a more rearward axle path is intended to improve small bump performance while anti squat has been slightly increased to maintain a better seat angle on steeper climbs.

We’ve been lucky enough to ride the Megawatt Carbons for a few days on our local trails pre-launch and they are shockingly fast and smooth. Incredibly quiet and planted the bike is an absolute monster on fast, rough descents and with amazing levels of balance and traction through rougher terrain it just encourages the rider to push on with apparently no upper limit to top speeds other than the pilot. It’s an amazing ride overall and would be our new top E-bike pick for anyone looking to race the clock, their mates or just pushing their riding into harder terrain.

We’ve managed to get a single size Large bike in store for launch with more to come over the coming weeks - it’ll be amazing to see these start to get out into the wild.
