A brand new tread from Maxxis, designed for high load, high impact riding in mixed terrain. In many ways a beefed up and higher grip evolution of the classic DHF, like it, the DHX uses a simple 2-2 knob pattern to give a reasonably fast rolling tire with a super stable tread and with multiple World Cup wins already behind it, it's already a proven performer.
Where the DHF used to have a wide channel between the centre and side knobs however, the DHX sees every second set of centre knobs moved wider to give a seamless transition when leaning the tire over and grip at every angle. The side knobs are also truly massive, giving huge support in fast corners and also enhancing longer term durability with a wider base of support. L shapes on every second row enhance braking performance and generous siping lets the tread grab and conform more readily. At a generous 2.5' volume, there is also plenty of cushioning from trail noise and the spaced tread should clear mud a little more easily than the Assegai.
The DHX also debuts the newest DH casing from Maxxis. The new casing now switches to a more supple dual ply 120 tpi carcass to enhance bump absorption and grip over the top of the tire, but adds several progressively firmer stiffeners into the sidewall for massive rim and puncture protection along with increased lateral stability. It's so effective that even at World Cup level, riders have been dropping their pressures by 2-3 psi compared to the previous generation and benefitting from the slower rebound and extra grip the drop in pressure provides.

What kind of conditions is the DHX designed for?
It's a perfect dry tire. Think summer UK off piste, bike parks and rocky ground. Wet conditions will still be decent as the tire clears mud reasonably well, it just won't have quite the bite of the High Roller when the ground is really soft.
Will there be other casings and compounds?
Later yes, for now it's DH only so you get all the grip and support to start with.
